The CDC/NIOSH Toolbox Talks are designed to supply information associated to office hazards and risks to employees at Stone, Sand, Gravel, and Aggregates (SSGA) operations. This info can be utilized to extend workers’ health and security. This series of Toolbox Talks was created using knowledge from two sources: interviews with SSGA mine workers about hazards and risks at their worksite, and nonfatal and fatal damage information reported to the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) through the years 2009-2014. Each Toolbox Talk includes a quote from a mine employee to reveal a first person expertise with a hazard or risk. This first person expertise is then linked to MSHA damage data to indicate that these experiences are in keeping with the realities of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Finally, several questions are included that can be used to begin a discussion about a specific Toolbox Talk matter - as an example, questions for the slips and falls topic are centered on having mine staff identify where slips and falls are prone to occur at their mine web site and ways mine staff can shield themselves from slip and fall injuries. Altogether there are 13 talks included on this series.
